Salt Water Chlorinator Replacement and Upgrade

Replacing Salt Water Chlorinators has been 43 percent of our residential Flash Doser installations as of April 2013. This can be attributed to the significant electricity cost saving due to reduced filtration time achieved by this new technology that improves the efficacy of granular chlorine as a both a sanitiser and oxidiser when introduced to the swimming pool through the Flash Doser. The product is further environmentally friendly and pool water can be safely backwashed without polluting the environment.

It appears significant energy savings can be achieved by replacing a salt water chlorinator with a granular chlorine doser.

  8. Manish says:

Surprising to know that people are replacing SWC. I would like to understand the reasons more.

    • John says:

      Hi Manish
We noticed that we were replacing SWC’s and while we cannot ascribe this to any one reason here are some possibilities.
      1. The Flash Doser delivers 75gms of Cal-Hypo or 50gms of available chlorine injected into the pool in solution in 30 minutes. This is 3 to 10 times the capacity of SWC’s. The net effect is that there are significant energy savings to be made as filtration times are limited to filtration rather than producing chlorine.
      2. The Flash Doser improves the efficacy of Cal-Hypo achieving peak chlorine levels early in the evening which are available for an extended period to sanitise the pool and oxidise organic matter before sunlight breaks down the chlorine.
      3. The Flash Doser doesn’t have the inherent difficulty of disposing of salt laden waste water.
      4. Maintenance to the Flash Doser is limited to occasional cleaning.
Our technical information page “Chlorine Dosage and Electricity Cost” demonstrates the actual costs of operating a Swimming Pool in South Africa and the savings to be achieved by reduced filtration times which can generally be halved for residential pools.
